When scammers cry SCAM!

The continuing chronicles of the P&P Gang aka Paul and Penny Westhead, the notorious and underhanded owners of http://www.surfwize.com/ and http://www.cashitz.net/, reveal that the two have no shame 'tall when it comes to dealing with other traffic site/paid to surf programs! This from an honest site owner in which Ms Pen has been a member of:

Hello everybody,

This is a sad day as it marks the end of a relationship I had with some people I used to call my friends. Most of you are or have been members of Cashitz and Surfwize, and like me, most of you are still waiting to be paid by both of these sites. Despite the poor treatment I have received from both of these sites over the last 3 months, I have resisted the urge to publicly denigrate either site.

A few of you already know that Paul deleted my account and kept all my earnings because of a comment I made in his forum. Those of you that are aware of this are also aware that I was denied any right of reply, and every further post I put in his forum was deleted. I was prepared to accept this without making the issue too public, as I had made a mistake, and instead of being 3 months overdue for payment it was only 6 weeks. Still not acceptable for a site that promotes itself as having a 100% payout record. I kept a copy of the response he deleted and you can see it at http://autosurfinfo.com/openletter.html

As if that wasn't sad enough I have been waiting since 1st of May for cashout at Surfwize. The last payout I received was during the month of May for April earnings. I am owed for May, June and July, as are most of you.

As you are also aware Penny is a member of dadndaves autosurf. Due to the fact that Paul and Penny were the original hosts of dadndaves autosurf, (that's another story in itself, and you are all aware of the problems I had just after launch) Penny had many hours start on the rest of the field when it came to promoting dadndaves, and as a result won the referral contest for May, which I paid her for. She had no earnings to cashout for May as she had compounded them, but I would have paid her, as I paid everyone else who was due.

She then came 3rd in June, which I asked her to deduct from my June cashout. Of course the June cashout never came. I also paid her on the3rd of July for her June earnings, after she promised me the cashout button at Surfwize would be open on the 7th of July for all members. Almost a month later the cashout button is still not open, the site is down, and she tells me she cannot pay because " I can not get into the control area to pay members out at the moment", but the front page of her site clearly states 'and payouts are continuing whilst we are down'. Which is true??

Obviously, by the number of emails I have been receiving from other disgruntled members the possibility of being paid is becoming less and less by the day. I did not think it was fair on me, or other Surfwize members, to have to wait 3 months to be paid, so I put her dadndaves earnings 'on hold' until I at least got some sort of response from her as to when payouts would begin.

I then received an email from Penny demanding that I pay her what I owe her today. Demanding?? What do you think would happen if you or I demanded to be paid from Cashitz or Surfwize. ** All I asked for was some answers and I got my account deleted, imagine what would have happened if I demanded to be paid. Perhaps those of you who are still waiting should send her an email now and demand to be paid. You'll probably get the same response from her as she got from me, an angry email.

I suggested we delete each others accounts and move on, as despite her problem with arithmetic, the amount she owes me is similar to the amount I owe her. The response I got to that was even stronger than a 'demand'. Threats already!! 'ok, I will treat you as a SCAM, and believe me I can shout.', You have 24 hours to pay me or I will close you down, if you don't think I can watch and learn. and 'Pay me today or face the consequences'

Well I would like to put the record straight. Dadndaves is not a scam, dadndaves pays it's members when payments are due, dadndaves does have a business plan that will guarantee your payouts now and well into the future, unlike some others that stumble along for 12 months, then find out they can't do it properly and have to hire a business consultant.

dadndaves does not, and will not ask it's members to pay a $10 fee in order to keep operating, only to go offline a few days later, dadndaves does not claim to have a 100% payout record, and then renegue on that claim, dadndaves has a 99.9999% payout record, the only person who hasn't been paid is Penny Westhead. For the record I have deleted Penny's account under the terms on my front page which state You won't get your account deleted unless you try to defraud me. Penny has defrauded me and thousands of her members by continually promising payouts which never come, then by charging a $10 fee to be able to make payments, and still not paying.

This is a sad day, and I didn't want to have to go public in this way, but if anyone wants to declare that dadndaves is a scam then I have to take the necessary steps to protect the integrity of the program.

In the not surprised here department, http://www.surfwize.com/ has apparently left the building along with member earnings last time I checked 0246 eastern usa time 08-02-05. http://www.cashitz.net/ still remains online with this rather sad note from Paul:

Inductees have no shame

Still MIA and still not paying the members, http://www.cashitz.net and http://www.surfwize.com remain down due to server issues according to the owners Paul and Penny Westhead. Interestingly, the couple appear to own their server which probably accounts for the reason they are still actually on line and not showing 404 site not found errors.

The couple owes thousands of dollars to their members. Research through the search engines and posts made by members show the couple was having problems paying their members as early as January 2005.

Any time you fall victim of a scam or are defrauded you should always file complaints and reports. A quick search on internet fraud, scam or fraud will produce many sites and organizations dedicated to fighting crime on the internet.

Keep your reports factual and provide copies of your proof of fraud whenever requested. DO NOT FILE FALSE scam reports just because you are unhappy with a program owner. The penalties for doing so can be quite severe.

The One Buck No Bounce Wonder

So, we came up with a solution: all the incoming mail is actually STORED on our servers until delivered to the boxes. So, unless your box is full (or no longer exists), mail is delivered to you even if the actual box server is down for some reason.

The Validator: A success story

(Publishers Note: Email marketing remains wildly popular. From consumer products to opportunities, marketers use email to advertise their goods and services. While bulk email is often employed, safe lists are probably the venues most used by on line marketers. In 1998 I started using Safe lists, just a handful to begin with, logging in daily and sending ads by hand. As you can imagine I did not receive much of a response to my ads! So as we all do, I took the plunge and joined a big safe list submitter, there weren't many of them around at the time and there was no such thing as automated validations!.

Hundreds of validation links came flowing into my email account along with ads from admin owners that validated my account by hand. For 4 days I was getting buried in emails hiding my validation links.

Finally The Validator was created. It has been improved a lot since then, generally our time for processing validations is around about 2 hours. It searches out any virus' found in emails and will NOT download them, this email is then deleted from the web server and validations carry on.

A lot of people have asked "why should I use The Validator when my submitter has an onboard validation service".

My answer to them is simple ask your submitter admin if they also process validations for contact email addresses, most safelist hosts now require this, their answer will be NO. Whilst The Validator is processing your validation links we watch over everyone of them so if there was a large number of safe lists that were down on their servers we can inform you of this and re-send The Validator at another time, something else that an onboard validation script cannot do!

Although The Validator is an industrial strength program it is operated by human beings that you can talk to if needs be.

Fastads and Postads were the first submitters to start offering THE VALIDATOR (independent from the on board validator). Since then, many other submitters now use the service including XtreamNet Marketing Center.

2Daily crashes and burns

2Daily has stopped paying members, stopped answering emails and has closed its doors permanently, and in otherwise short order left the buiding after only a brief (like couple months?) sojourn on the Net, possibly breaking an all time record in the flash, splash, crash and burn on-line business model, and, no doubt taking those who did actually invest money with them (in high hopes of the promised high returns) firmly to the cleaners

When it first appeared, many were excited and an equally number puzzled. The burning question was how could it possibly support the claims of large payouts for miniscule amount of surfing? How? A traffic exchanges' life blood is in the surf. That is what makes it all WORK. You simply cannot attract advertisers without active member surf stats. Plus, you simply cannot just give money away along with free memberships combined with small payout levels. All that eventually comes back to haunt you. Quickly in 2Daily's case.

Of course, 2Daily was on the fast-track to burn out from the onset: promising a. free money b. free memberships c. low (like non-existent surf requirements) and (most fatal of all) d. quick payouts within the first 30-days for all members - including free. They apparently had not noticed that "free" members means no one spends money. If you pay free members to surf every month, they tend to stay that way. Plus, if you set the surf standards too low, you basically have a whole lot of people doing - nothing. And nothing does not pay the bills, does not attract advertisers, does not encourage members to upgrade.

Nothing then means you have no money to pay the members. Unless you have really deep pockets and another agenda for starting the whole affair to begin with, of course you are doomed. Of course you cannot pay. Of course you have no substantial or loyal or (God forbid) WORKING membership. Everyone along for the gravy train and the free ride and no one noticing the rather ill concealed lumps or the sink holes in the road. For those lured by promises of EVEN BIGGER PAYOFFS by investing their money in the ill-fated enterprise...

So, what does that say about the paid-to-surf industry? Is it a sham, scam, and a rip-off? In my opinion, absolutely NOT.

There are scammers and mis-guided and/or unscrupulous owners for sure. There are the sharks absolutely. There are those who have no clue - as in all sense and sensibility has left the building. Does this cast a shadow on the paid-to industry as a whole. Yes. But shadows are meant to be stepped out of.

There is a number of very successful and ethically run paid-to-surf programs on the Net. Some are very well established, some are new. Some have successfully employed the concept of free accounts and free money. Studio Traffic is the most notable (and probably the most emulated).

However, for every Studio Traffic there are THOUSANDS (or more) which fail. The primary reason for failure is that free money and free membership combined with LOW PAYOUT time frames and membership levels is inherently unstable. As a veteran of many paid-to sites, I know for a fact that the majority of them have very high payout levels for free members and there is a sound business reason behind this. By the time a free member finally reaches payout, the site has garnered a. many paying members b. many paying advertisers. These are the entities which actually pay a. hosting bills and b. the free members.

I belonged at one time to a number of paid-to sites where the payout was set at well over $150.00 for the free members. At .002 per click, well let's say it was a whole lot of reading required to make payout level. And then of course I didn't make $150.00. Nope. That was the LEVEL I had to accumulate. Sigh. I got paid anything over that. I never did reach payout. Kinda the whole point in the industry somewhat. That was 2003 - 2004.

Then, we started to see the backlash to all this. First there was all those programs which claimed to pay you $5, then $10 then $50 and THEN $150 per email. Yikes! One of them was supposedly paying out at $15,000. Like HOW?? (My all time favorite was the site that supposedly taught you how to earn $1 million reading emails. Right. My question was WHO WAS PAYING THAT? That what I wanted to find out because THAT was the business I wanted. Lol. I wanted to be the admin who PAID out that mil to members - plural.)

Point is: paid-to anything is a business. It must follow good, sound business practices and laws. Anyone can PROMISE anything. A promise is no good unless fulfilled. Ethical business owners know and appreciate this fact. They follow solid business models which guarantee success for the customers/members first. This guarantees them success. When looking for a good paid-to program to invest in ASK QUESTIONS! Analyze the situation. Does it MAKE SENSE? Then, proceed with caution always.

The $1 email project

My partners, Ken Belz and Debra Challinor, and myself took a huge leap of faith in late May and committed ourselves to upgrading the Just4uu email service to a true commercial email service. One of the things we have learned over the years in business and marketing is that the free email services such as Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, zwallet and others actively discourage email marketers from using their services. Even the not free services like AOL does this as well. There are many reasons for this, and it mostly has to do with SPAM laws (and complaints) and the sheer volume of email the average email marketer sends and receives.

For example: when you join a safe list you are asked for both a list and contact email. What happens is, when you send an ad from that safe list, the safe list server IN CONJUNCTION WITH YOUR EMAIL SERVER, sends that ad to all the members in list database. The same happens when another member of that safe list sends out an ad. So, one list of 500 members will typically send 500X500 emails in one day. Now, multiply that by THOUSANDS OF LISTS and HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of safe list members and you begin to see the enormity of the issue email servers face when dealing with commercial email and those who use email to market their goods and services.

The free email servers are not interested in supporting this, and who can blame them? Most of them have safe guards and filters built into the service which will REJECT any email which they consider commercial email. This means that all those emails sent out by all those members BOUNCE (or get returned to the source) back to the safe lists, thus clogging THEIR servers and creating havoc. So, most safe lists now ban yahoo, msn, hotmail, aol and etc.

All this leaves you with this: if you are going to market, you need at least two, reliable commercial email accounts: one for your contact address and one for your list address. Being marketers ourselves we know first hand how expensive that can be. Plus, realistically, you need more than two. Two is a good start, but you really need more than that in the long run. The more successful you become at marketing and the more venues you promote, the more commercial emails you need to support your marketing efforts.

Plus, you need a service that WILL NOT RETURN YOUR EMAILS or bounce! This aspect took much thought and engineering skills to accomplish. Putting together a “No Bounce” email service that is both POP3 and SMTP was challenging. The POP3 was necessary as it had to be compatible with box cleaning and validating software (for starters.). It needed features like a “one-click” delete function (not found on G-mail or yahoo or any web-based email service.). Finally, while we knew that we could not possibly offer this service for free, we needed to come up with the next best thing possible.

With all this in mind, we came up with the $1 30meg email account offer. We also knew we needed a lot of help promoting this service to the world. Although this looks great (I mean if we get thousands of members that means thousands of dollars right?), the reality is rather daunting. Paypal takes 33 cents out of this so our net is 67 cents. (We had to discontinue accepting Stormpay as they took 74 cents.) It currently costs us $600 per month for the server, so we need close to 1,000 members just to pay for the servers. As we grow, so will the need for more and larger and more sophisticated servers.

Now, if you can see your way to purchase one or two of these boxes, fantastic! But, what we really need is HELP promoting this service to the world. We do have an affiliate program. Two Business Women turn F.R.EE Email Hosting on its Head.

1. When you signup with a safe list you are required to validate your email account which is sent in the form of a URL link to your subscription email account, you click this link and your email account is then validated with that particular safe list. When you use a Safe list Submitter you can join hundreds of Safe lists at a time. ALL these Safe lists then send you a URL link to click.
Most Safe list Submitters now offer an automated validation so you don’t have to validate hundreds of safe lists by hand.

NOW here the problems with FREE email accounts begin!For ANY outside software to gain access to an email account your Email Provider has to allow you POP access. “Yahoo, MSN, Google (yes, this includes G-mail) and other Free email providers DO NOT ALLOW POP access with their FREE email accounts so members find themselves validating hundreds of URLs by hand and this can take days,” says Cherie!

2. Then there is this problem: multiple accounts are created by people eager to join the safe lists and get their ads out! This has caused Safe list Hosts and Owners to put a stop to this by banning Free email accounts like Yahoo, MSN, Google etc, from hitting their servers and posting to their Safe list. “And who can blame them?,” says Debra. “NOBODY wants an unresponsive safe list . If we all did this then nobody would be reading ads, just setting up accounts from one day to the next, posting ads and starting again what an earth would be the point!?”

3. “Did you know that many web-based email services actually reject your incoming safe list email even if you have signed up to receive them?” asks Cherie. “Don’t get me wrong, we all love those free accounts at Yahoo, but, Yahoo is not email marketing friendly. In fact, most of your web-based email providers including Aol and msn/hotmail are either banned at most safe lists or return your marketing email, won’t allow it into your inbox and etc. This is lethal for online marketers using email to market their sites, services and products.” She concludes.

Just4uu ends the nightmare of safe list accounts being deactivated or closed due to bounced or returned email. Your email will never bounce or be returned due to our server being down, over-loaded, or returned because of filters. They built the service to be completely email and submitter marketing friendly.

4. These free email accounts also cause problems to the efficiency and running of the larger companies on the internet that want to send News and Information to their members but cannot because Free Email Providers Spam Filter their emails which means they choose which of your emails go directly to the trash, for you! To combat this problem, the best way they can, Companies send out emails encouraging their members to visit especially setup URL News and information sites.

Instead of being able to directly email their members, these companies have to hope members will visit these URLs to read their News and Important updates. Cashflowpc is a perfect recent example of this! They had to completely abandon emailing company news and updates to their membership due to the constraints on the free email accounts that filtered out and/or rejected their emails - even if the members wanted them and were expecting them!Debra, Cherie and Ken simultaneously agree that this is ridiculous and BAD for business. “Any company Admin wants and expects emails offering News and Updates landing safely and directly in your members email box” says Ken. But because of the Spam Filters on Free Email Providers this is not the case and does not happen.

Changes had to be made. This is where the new Just4uu/XtreamNet email service was born.

When confronted how they intended to do this Cherie, Debra and Ken told us this: “Nobody wants to pay huge amounts of money for an email account, the uptake on Free email accounts has proved this. Yet another way to "Get Zapped" online!

A few posts back I talked about examining and analyzing a site thoroughly before signing up for or promoting. A site has come along that is absolutely perfect for an exercise in doing just this. http://www.greenzap.com/ It first came across my traffic site a few weeks ago and I set it aside for a quick look see then, laughed at it and passed. To my surprise, many people were signing up for this thing! Could I be wrong? Was I mistaken in my first look-see? (It happens.)

But, to my credit, many more people are now scrutinizing this site and it looks like it will indeed be at least one candidate for scam of the quarter if not for at least half the year. There are many reasons why this is, and it is NOT rocket science. It is in fact, plain "common" sense. Simple actually, and this is how "I do it."

First thing I did was read and think upon what the site was saying about itself and then compare it with what facts I saw presented. This particular site has this to say about itself:

1. “…do just about anything with money online…buy on eBay…Yahoo Auctions…”

Ok, let us stop right there. Been on eBay lately? Bought anything from anyone on eBay lately? Noticed ANY OTHER PAYMENT PROCESSOR BESIDES PAYPAL on eBay lately? I mean, you don’t even see storm pay let alone egold, INTGOLD, and etc. In fact, eBay IS PayPal,. No, Paypal IS eBay. Don’t believe me? Log into paypal and check out the bottom of the screen: “paypal is an eBay company. Lol. So, strike #1 and it is a biggee. Oh, and Yahoo Auctions? - THAT is StormPay. See where YOUR log out takes you next time you visit then exit StormPay.

So, right here you have big, fat, LIE and big ‘ol strike one.

2. “GreenZap is a fun, simple, low-cost way for people to send, spend, and receive money online. GreenZap account holders can send money to anyone around the world as long as they have an email address. “

Ok, so now they are a bank? Online banks do this. Yepper, and are governed by state, national, and international banking regulations. So, where is all that info? Policy and privacy statements, you know, the usual “I am trusting my money to a bank/processor thing?” Noticeably missing you see.

3. “Members can spend money purchasing goods and services from other GreenZap members & merchants or from other popular sites, including eBay® and Yahoo® Auctions. “

Really? And how is that accomplished pray tell? Have YOU seen a merchant taking GreenZap lately? A payment processor button please any where anyone? Ebay and Yahoo Auctions, don’t think so. See above.

4. “…or earn money by telling others about GreenZap”
The much promoted $25.00. Is there a processor here? No. So, are you actually getting this $25.00? No. Smoke and Mirrors.

Already there are 4 unsubstantiated claims here. This is where logic kicks in f + f+ f +f = false. This site is false. False is bad. False means “run away from.” Which of course, I did.
But here is the really crazy thing: they are telling you that when you join you receive $25 in your account for each member you sign up. Look, it is a meaningless, empty number. It has no substance. It is fluff, smoke and mirrors. I have a friend who joined and this so I asked him what his experience was regarding the money that is supposedly “deposited” into your account. He said:

“Doesn’t happen.”

I am not alone here: other people have done some research into this site, the owner/s and the claims. GZ totes itself as being “ a fun, simple, low-cost way for people to send….money online“…RIGHT OUT OF YOUR HANDS AND INTO THEIRS! My advise: stay away from it. It is some kind of email harvesting scam. Insulate yourself thoroughly, you might get zapped good by this one if you don’t!
